1. Robert Ellis (Sr) was born on February 1, 1760 in , Buckingham, VA, USA. He served in the military between 1780 and 1782.1,2 He died on December 25, 1849 in Northwest of, Linton, Greene, IN, USA. He was buried 25 Dec 1849 est in Samaria Cemetery, Stockton, Greene, IN, USA. Buckingham did not exist until 1861 - Robert must have been born in Albemarle. In 1797, Robert Ellis, Sr sold his land on Deep Creek in GA and in October 1797, another 230 acres on the Appalachee in GA was sold for taxes. Records show he purchased land in 1797 in Grainger County, TN. Settlers often took extended trips between 1785 and 1805 to TN and KY to look over new lands. It was a way of life. Many returned to GA to find their lands had been sold for taxes.

His wife Sarah Isom Ellis made a Widow's clam that he served in the War of 1812 from September 1814 - Spring of 1815, widow's pension declaration was made on 5 Nov 1873. James bought 100 acres of land for $114.00 from his brother George Ellis in November of 1840 in Campbell County, Tennessee. In 1848 James and his family moved to Morgan County, Tennessee, here James buys 350 acres of land. Later, as some of his family members start moving to Indiana, he also decides to go to Indiana. He is found on the 1850 census at the age of 54 years old with his family, six of his children and his oldest son James Junior, and his wife Mahulda. He has $450 dollars in property in Green County, Indiana. The other family members remained in Green County, Indiana, where his father Robert Ellis is living with his brother William. Most all other relatives are close by in the general area of Green County, except for his brother Robert, who had moved to Missouri. In the late 1850's James returns to Scott County, Tennessee, here he lives out his remaining years. He passed a way in September of 1854, at the age of 63, he is buried at the Paint Rock Cemetery in Scott County, Tennessee. Sarah his wife out lives James by over 25 years. James Sr., was in Georgia in 1824, went back to Tennessee when Nancy was born in 1827, then moved back to Indiana, in 1831 where Peggy "Margaret" was born, then moves back to Scott Co., Tennessee in 1833 where Lucy is born. He moved around a lot.

He was married to Sarah Isom on December 13, 1813 in New River, Campbell, TN, USA. Sarah Isom was born in January 1786 in , , SC, USA. She was buried in May 1899 in , Scott, TN, USA. She died on May 4, 1899 in , Scott, TN, USA. Age and maiden name determined per "War of 1812 Declaration of a Widow For Pension", date of document Nov. 5, 1873. Married by Wright Sarton a Justice of the Peace at New River, Cambell County, Tennessee. Note that the 1880 census taker marked Sarah Isom Ellis, as "idiot and insane", she was 78 years old at this time, she could of been senile or maybe had Alzheimer's. My grandmother Letha Ellis knew that her mother-in-law was very talented with needlework, and knew that my other grandmother Della Hilliard was also very talented along the same line. So, my grandmother decided that I would have the same talent and made sure I learned how to do all these needle crafts too. She was correct; I knit, crochet, tat, sew, crewel embroidery, regular embroidery, needlepoint. Mary Francis was a mid-wife. I believe she delivered some of my grandmothers babies. He did not approve of Martin wanting to marry his daughter. Martin had just returned from the Civil War in 1865 and had nothing to offer Thursa Jane Parker, so believed her father, Joel Parker. But over his objections they married anyway. In just a few years Martin was doing quite well. He owned a farm and had several men working in the woods for him cutting timber for his saw mill. He also owned a small general goods store. As the years passed Martin bought more land. As their children grew into adults and married, he gave each of them fifteen acres of land. His head stone reads "May the resurrection find the on the bosom of thy God."

James Alvis Ellis was a farmer, and also worked in Robbins, at the Robbins Brick Yard. The plant was setup to furnish paving brick to the state of Florida. At the turn of the century (1900) all the cities of Florida were building their streets with brick. The Robbins Brick Yard was in operation until 1927 when it closed down. James and Retsie bought 15 acres of land from Nancy Ellis, his sister in 1907. Both James and Nancy, with the rest of Martin V Ellis' children, were each given fifteen acres of land when they were married. The land James had was next his sisters fifteen acres that his father had given him when he married Retsie, he purchased his sisters land before 1909. In about 1908, the family moved to Oklahoma, they didn't stay very long, they returned to the original homestead in Tennessee. In 1917 James Alvis decided to move again to Oklahoma. On 10 Mar 1917, he sold the fifteen acres he had bought from his sister Nancy, to a Mr. J A Smith for one dollar and some other valuables. In 1909, James Alvis had deeded his original fifteen acres to his Uncle William Ellis. For whatever reason this deed was never filed with the Scott County Court back in 1909. On 25 Feb 1919, the deed was finally recorded in Scott County. The World War One Registration certificate for James, signed at Christie, Oklahoma, in 1918, shows his name as James Alvis Ellis. James Alvis died of: Uremia (kidney) Disease, after being ill for about eight days.

In her last hour she said she could see Jesus standing by her side. Her last requests was that all Christians would pray for her four boys, and that they might meet mother in a better place. She said she did not know who would be here to pray for her boys after she was gone. Mother, we will miss you in our home and in our Church, but we will not forget you and the old home church where you have been a member for 53 years. We will never cease to pray for your boys until they are safe in the Kingdom of God. The above was written in September 1936.
